The Century Batteries Ipswich Super 440 roared back to Queensland Raceway over the weekend, with strong crowds turning out to “The Paperclip” circuit for three days of non-stop racing, which featured the Repco Supercars Championship, as well as Aussie Racing Cars, TGRA GR Cup, Trans AM and Porsche Carrera Cup.
A damper of rain didn’t stop round nine of the Supercars calendar kicking off without a hitch on Saturday, as fan favourite Brodie Kostecki in his Shell V-Power Racing Team Ford Mustang clinched first for Race 26.
Race 27 was full of thrills and spills, as Red Bull Ampol Racing driver Will Brown from Toowoomba returned serve, clinching first at his official home track in his Mustang, before reigning champion Red Bull Ampol Racing driver Broc Feeney sailed ahead in Sunday’s showdown in Race 28 of the series.
Off the track, crowds were kept busy with plenty of food and drink vendors, live demonstrations, merchandise alley and watching the non-stop action from the Ferris Wheel.
Speaking with Ipswich Tribune Today, Will Brown said it was pretty cool to be back at his home track.
“It’s great to get back on the podium with the support of so many friends and family here too,” Will said.
He said QR continues to be a challenging circuit on the Supercars calendar.
“At QR, there’s a lot of high braking and it’s a tough track to get right.”
Before it was indefinitely shelved in 2019, Supercars made its inaugural return to QR in 2025, drawing the biggest crowd since 2011.
While plans for a return remain underwrap, the Red Bull Ampol Racing fan favourite hopes Supercars ups the ante for a return to Ipswich in 2027.
“QR is massive. As drivers we want this circuit on the event as well,” Will said.
“The fans that were out here were mega, the podium win was huge.
“QR owner Tony Quinn has done a fantastic job with his whole team here.
“Supercars should come back to QR.
“I hope we’re back,” he said.
While crowd numbers were not yet finalised at the time of publishing this story, one thing is clear. Supercars fever in Ipswich is only just beginning.
This reflects a high level of interest across Queensland in the Supercars series, according to Google Trends search data, and the big-name racers who thrill crowds around the state across the season.
